In order to teach our kids what it means to love, we have to show them first.
Each early fall, there’s an event that takes place which puts family first. The New Albany Classic was founded by Abigail Wexner in 1998 on the family’s expansive property just east of Columbus. It combines everything lively and visual for families into one space, making it the perfect place for a family to just enjoy each other and the beautiful fall surroundings. But beyond what it does for your family, Wexner donates the proceeds to The Center for Family Safety and Healing. The nonprofit has one goal: to break the cycle of family violence that is still too prevalent throughout our area and beyond. In the last 17 years The Classic has raised more than $25 million to support the center.
There is so much to see and do at the event. This year, The Concert at The Classic features performances by Timeflies and The Girl and The Dreamcatcher, which includes a Disney Channel favorite. Ryan McCartan will also perform and a pop group, Before you Exit. RaeLynn will be crooning and a hot name among teens too, Skylar Stecker.
The other audience-worthy event at the Classic: an internationally sanctioned grand prix. Participants come from all over and they’ll be competing for monetary awards and the Authentic Cup. Gorgeous horses, athletic displays… if you’re family hasn’t seen something like this before it is a real treat.
There’s a new performance area also at The Classic this year, it’s called the Dance, Sing, and Roar! Stage. The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium will have some of their friends there for an hour-long show. At another time, there’s going to be a lightsaber battle on stage in celebration of the new Star Wars movie, Darth Vader will show up I understand.
And that’s just the larger events and stages at The Classic! There will be ziplining and amusement rides. Families will be able to go ice-skating. There’s a new massive dinosaur display and a pumpkin patch filled with hundreds of pumpkins, complete with the Peanuts characters we all grew up loving. (We understand they’re separating the pumpkins from the dinosaurs, you never know what those guys are willing to eat 😆 )
So much to do, and one day to fit it all in! It’s next Sunday. For your complete guide to The New Albany Classic, visit this link.
